Reports

and Observations

Report and observations are important for everyone for several reasons. The first reason is that by getting the feedback we can track our progress over time. another reason is that it helps us identify issues and certain struggles that require improvements (Ron, 2015).

On this page you will get the opportunity to read through my reports and observations across six competencies which are (Click on any of the competencies below to view details)

The teaching you planned for this lesson is in line with the preferred way of teaching phonics and

vocabulary in government schools. However, I would encourage you to consider alternative

approaches which depend on lesson teacher input and whole class work and allow for higher

cognitive engagement for the learners. Examples may include choosing items from a selection and identifying the initial phoneme, finding partners with the same sound, throwing a dice and Ss give words starting with the sound or using phoneme frames. The flashcard task at the end of the lesson required more HOTS so is a good start. You have worked very hard to develop and prepare a range of suitable learning centers. These help to consolidate what you introduced on the carpet in an engaging and creative way. You have organized the adult helpers well so the children are supported again making the center time productive and directed while still being very age-appropriate. You have introduced differentiation making the tasks more meaningful also. Well done!

Your actual plan has a lot of detail in it making it easy for anyone to pick up the plan and deliver

the lesson. You have really thought through all aspects of the lesson. This is excellent work Maitha

and you should be very proud of yourself. J

Planning for Learning:  Maitha displayed considerable knowledge of the subject content. In order to maximize her teaching time, integrated science, math, and literacy into her unit on _” My Weather” _. She used what the students already knew about the topic, to target her questioning and to build upon their developing schema. To support and accommodate the diverse learners in the classroom, Maitha varied her teaching strategies in order to create exciting activities for the students to learn and enjoy. She incorporated songs, co-operative activities, whole group and small group discussions, one to one conferencing, games and a variety of manipulatives to engage and support the students in their learning.

Knowledge of subject content was demonstrated with excellence. In all areas of the curriculum, she incorporated creativity, technological background and questioning skills into all units. She used the computer as a prime teaching tool at every opportunity, including the use of the Smartboard. She provided an assortment of visual aids to support student learning.

According to my MCT's feedback, my strengths in lesson planning is away much more than the weakness. I demonstrated a good lesson plan that was detailed enough to get anyone use it to deliver the lesson again without a word. I found out from her feedback that I had to focus more on the introduction part of the phonics lesson where the delivery of the phonics starts by using strategies that are cognitive engaging. I think that I benefit from my MCT's reflection for future improvements in planning for leaning competency.
